Vocabulary Trainer
The vocabulary trainer helps you learn knowledge sustainably — with intelligent repetition that adapts to your learning progress.
Deck types
There are two types of decks:
- Vocabulary — For language learning with source and target language. Cards additionally show pronunciation and example sentences.
- Freeform (Question & Answer) — For any learning content: definitions, facts, formulas, or any kind of question-answer pair.
Creating a deck
Click New Deck and enter a name. Choose the type:
- For Vocabulary, additionally enter the source language (e.g. en) and target language (e.g. de).
- For Freeform, no languages are needed.
Adding cards
Open a deck and click Add card. Enter the front (question/word) and back (answer/translation). For vocabulary decks, you can optionally add pronunciation and an example sentence.
Study session
Click Study on a deck. You will be shown cards that are due today:
- You see the front side (with pronunciation for vocabulary).
- Click Reveal to see the answer.
- Rate how well you knew the card.
Rating system
After revealing, rate your knowledge with four buttons:
- Again — You didn't know it. The card will be shown again soon.
- Hard — You knew it, but it was difficult. Shorter interval.
- Good — Normal effort. Standard interval.
- Easy — Instantly knew it. Longer interval.
Spaced Repetition
Brainsparkle uses the SM-2 algorithm. Cards you know well are repeated at increasing intervals (1 day → 3 days → 7 days → ...). Cards you find difficult are shown more frequently. This way you learn efficiently and forget less.
AI card generation
With a Premium subscription, you can have flashcards automatically generated from your notes. Open a note, click the flashcard icon, and choose a target deck. The AI analyses the content and creates matching cards.
Tips for effective learning
- Study every day — even short sessions of 5 minutes help.
- Rate honestly — this allows the system to optimally adjust the intervals.
- Create your own cards — self-formulated content is easier to remember.
- Use example sentences — they help you learn words in context.
